Alfred Basbous (1924 – 2006) was a Lebanese modernist artist and sculptor.

His works are often abstract or figurative variations of the human body, notable for their fluidity of form.

He was inspired from a diverse range of sources, including Henry Moore's figurative abstractionJean Arp's surrealism and Constantin Brancusi's purity of lines and forms.

A. Basbous worked with wood, marble, bronze, and stone to express what he saw as "the simple essence of the human and animal forms".

His works display the influence of Phoenician culture (Tête, Phoenician Head, Phoenician Victory…), Lebanese Art and iconography (Mother & Child).

Since 2010, 4 years after his passing, his artworks are often part of prestigious auctions such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
